Massa Playing Cards

Picked up a Massa deck from a friend. Because I’m too cheap or something to go buy one.

So. If you’re lucky enough to wait until just a few months ago, these decks dropped from the usual 8-10$ to a super cheap 1-3$. Very High supply meets ultra low demand or something like that.  Bricks of these can go auctioned on eBay for under 20. Non-auction bricks land between 20 and 30. Bulk amounts of bricks get substantially cheaper.

Quite available at the moment. These won’t disappear anytime soon.

Thick with a good snap. Heavier than bicycles. Durable, but can still take bends and hits. But still with that papery, air cushioned like finish. It does in fact have those air pocket dimples. Anaconda falls are the easiest ever to do with this deck. It says ‘linen’ finish. Probably not the same linen as say a Tally Ho deck. Tally Ho? Whats that…? We don’t know. We haven’t found one of those in the stash yet. Yet. Spreads stay consistent. Fans are great. But the only thing that stands out is the snap. Aside from that. Very slippery. As in if you missed a catch, expect some cards to slide. A lot.

“Nothing special”. The paper sides cuts sometimes show resistance.

Back Design: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ○ ○
One color way of black with gold linings and pips. Quite nice. Looks excellent in fans and spreads. Is in fact one way, but no one cares with a back design that looks this … reserved? At least that’s how I’d describe it. For the price of the deck, this is worth it.

Nothing to hate here. Holds together. Good for practice in quality and price. Lets avoid using these for magic. Though. Don’t think there’d be much problems there. Except for the back border. If that even bothers you at all.

-Massa deck. In the unknown until … I forget … early 2008? Apologies. I already ‘destroyed’ a few of the cards before writing. Haha…These decks are available and is recommended for use. Nothing to stop you. Not much to hate. Unless you only work with white bordered cards. Yea. But even with a full bleed back, it works as a deck. Ace of Spades is refreshing. Red on faces is that ‘casino’ red. the darker one. Standard index…faces are a little varied for court cards. Yes. Wonder why these got taken off production. Which means reserves will run out…? But not for some time.  Its good quality. Even disregarding any quality control issues. I should pick up some more of these.

Hygrade Pan Set

Another random card from my stash.

Name: Hygrade Pan Set

A Pan set picked up for about 6$ off of Ebay. Doubt you’d be able to find another one of these ever.

One Star availability…haha. Pan sets aren’t usually easy to come by because…they’re not typical decks of playing cards. You get J,Q,K,A and like 2- through 6 to make 40 card packs. 8 Sets per box means, this set has… uhh. 640 cards?

Life/Finish: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○
Kinda hard to classify. When I picked it up, like all old casino cards, even if they’re new, if they’re opened they clump. Horribly. So I recently picked up fanning powder. And revived them… and now…they’re good for eye candy, but little else. A little of the soft side. Who knows what ‘finish’ they have. The dimples give an air cushion effect, but its like…missing the springyness of a bicycle card, but it still has some snap on the edges. None of this really matters though , .. Unless you come across another set.

Quite easy. Has more ‘plastic’ flow than a bicycle deck, which leans towards the ‘paper’ side.

Available in Red and Blue. I personally like it because it mimics the aristocrat deck that I don’t have yet. : X yay for fake aristocrats. Fake? Well, its good enough for me. Plus I have a whole stash worth, so I can use them for practice.

Not enough snap left to make it worthwhile. Still works, but barely.

-Really Random. Probably what is labeled a ‘one-shot’ back design. Who knows that that little insignia thing in the middle is. I don’t. But having a ‘practice’ card is always worthwhile. What else…The red on the faces isn’t like that bright bicycle red, its more typical to the dark ‘casino’ red. Pan set means 40 cards, so no 8, 9, or 10 spots for you : ( Well. All in all. I’d use these. At least more than some of the other decks I have.
